Today I'm going to be talking about probably one of the most important step in anyone's routine; applying sunscreen. This is often overlooked by many people but is the most crucial step in preventing skin damage over time.
The sun radiates 3 different types of rays to earth: ultraviolet A (UVA) rays, ultraviolet B (UVB) rays and lastly ultraviolet C (UVC) rays. UVC rays are effectively blocked out by the earth's atmosphere but UVA and UVB rays do. UVA and UVB rays are the main causes for skin cancer and if we don't protect ourselves from it, can gradually lead to major skin damage in the long run.
This is where sunscreen comes into play. There are three different types of sunscreen, physical, chemical, and combination. Physical sunscreen protects your skin with ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These ingredients form a barrier on your skin and deflect UVA and UVB. While chemical sunscreen mainly uses ingredients like oxybenzone and avobenzone that eliminate the harmful UV rays with chemical reactions that alter UV rays to harmless heat. A combination sunscreen utilizes both of these ingredients to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays.
Many people try to improve their skin but don't realize that without sunscreen, the skin will constantly be damaged! So it's crucial that you use a sunscreen on a daily basis, even on cloudy days. UV rays can penetrate right through the clouds so don't let the sun hiding fool you!
This is my favorite sunscreen I use on a daily bases. It's a physical sunscreen and tinted so it doesn't leave a white cast. I love that it's tinted because I have a darker skin tone so it blends in with my skin pretty nicely.

I hope this post inspires you to start wearing sunscreen daily if you aren't already doing so yet!
I never cared for sunscreen even though I know about the harmful effects that we get from the sun. I just can't get over the feeling of sunscreen on my skin, it's usually so thick and hard to rub in. So that's why I don't apply sunscreen even though I should. Do you have any recommendations for sunscreen that doesnt have that feeling?
ReplyDeleteI really love the sunscreen I mentioned in my post. It never leaves a heavy feeling on my face and it has the universal tint that makes it so much better! It's a bit on the pricier side but I highly recommend you give it a try if you're looking for a decent sunscreen.
